I think you need to look back on the actual events. I do not, nor have I ever, work for an airline. However, I do know that airlines do not recommend booking connections closer than 2-3 hours. Airlines do not control the weather. The reroute was for your safety. Missed flights for any reason do leave you as a standby passenger. I would applaud the airline for changing out a broken ignition box. This was for your safety as well. Please do not blame American Airlines for doing their job, following company policies, and keeping travelers safe. AA used to be our airline of choice, but not once, twice, we had a very similar excperience as you. Both times, no apologies and though we were not told to run like hell when we asked about connecting flights, it was clearly implied . . . with a smirk. I have not used AA in over 10 years and do not plan to. Even with other airlines we have flown, the minimal issues we have had were all approached with actual customer service and employees who felt bad and sympathized with our situations.
